Cottage Grove Traveling Soccer

Cottage Grove United Traveling Soccer Program

Cottage Grove United offers a Traveling Program based upon the guidelines of the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) which gives kids a great soccer experience through age-appropriate levels of play.

Unlike the Recreational Program, the Travel Program will give your child more of a competitive soccer experience, including playing other teams from outside of the city of Cottage Grove.

Try-outs are held in early August and depending on your child's age group and ability determines how involved this experience becomes.

Cottage Grove United facilitates a Fall and Spring/Summer Traveling Program with currently over 600 players.

Cottage Grove United Traveling Program serves the more committed and talented player (U9-U19), offering a full scope of positive, yet competitive learning soccer experiences for all levels of players of ages 8-19.

The Fall Program runs early-September thru mid-October (6-8 weeks). While the Spring/Summer Program provides free off-season training throughout the winter and starts the outdoor season in April and runs thru July.

Levels & Commitment

U9/U10  GOLD / MAROON

Tryouts are held for these ages, but mostly it is a playing opportunity to ensure your a spot on one of our teams. Players are divided by their level - with the maroon teams being the more competitive of the two.

The Gold level offers a beginning to competitive game play for younger players from ages 7-10. The Maroon level is for more experienced players and increases the competition against Elite Soccer Clubs.  Both leagues play 6 players on field and no offsides rule. This allows the kids to work on the fundamentals of how the game works, dribbling, passing and shooting, with an emphasis on teamwork.

They practice 2-3 days a week, and have the option of tournaments on the weekends.  Cottage Grove United (CGU) pays for these teams to attend the Running with the Wolves and MYSA Jamboree Tournament.  Other tournaments are determined on parent funding and participation.  Teams are guaranteed three games and participation awards at each Tournament.

U11+ CLASSIC 3 (C3)/CLASSIC 2 (C2)

Players have to try out for U11+ teams and ranking will determine which team level they are accepted to.

The C3 level offers the beginning to real competitive game play for younger players from ages 11 and older.  Players that have played in the lower level will most likely go into the C2 level with their experience.  The Offsides Rule goes into effect, and now players start to work on strategy along with the fundamentals of the game.  The field gets larger, with another two players joining the field for a total of 8.

They practice 2-3 days a week, and have the option of tournaments on the weekends.  CGU pays for these teams to attend the Running with the Wolves.  Other tournaments are determined on parent funding, participation and team-fundraising.  Teams are guaranteed at least three games and have no guarantee of a prize or trophey.

U12+ CLASSIC 3 (C3) / CLASSIC (C2)  and CLASSIC 1 (C1)

Players have to try out for U12+ teams and ranking will determine which team level they are accepted to.

The C1 level offers the beginning to Elite competitive game play for younger players from ages 12 and older. Players start to work on strategy along with the fundamentals of the game.

They practice 3-4 days a week, and have the option of tournaments on the weekends.  CGU pays for these teams to attend the Running with the Wolves.  Other tournaments are determined on parent funding, participation and team-fundraising. Teams are guaranteed at least three games and have no guarantee of a prize or trophey.

U14+ CLASSIC 3 (C3) / CLASSIC (C2)  / CLASSIC 1 (C1) and PREMIERE

Players have to try out for U14+ teams and ranking will determine which team level they are accepted to.  MYSA will also determine if teams can be promoted to a higher level, stay the same, or relegated down based on their play during the season.

The Premiere level offers the highest and most Elite competitive game play for younger players from ages 14 and older. Players should have a strong grasp of the fundamentals of the game.  The field gets larger, with another two players joining the field for a total of  10.

They practice 3-4 days a week, and have the option of tournaments on the weekends.  Travel is farther, since the players are considered at a National level and represent not only Cottage Grove United but the State of Minnesota.  CGU pays for these teams to attend the Running with the Wolves.  Other tournaments are expected but determined on parent funding, participation and team-fundraising. Teams are guaranteed at least three games and have no guarantee of a prize or trophey.
